Z-Arg(Z)2-OSu is a protected arginine derivative in which the α-amino group is masked with a benzyloxycarbonyl (Z/Cbz-type) protecting group and the side-chain guanidinium functionality is protected with two additional Z groups, forming a bis-Z protected guanidine motif. The molecule also contains an activated N-hydroxysuccinimide (OSu) ester at the carboxyl position, while retaining the amino acid backbone with a free carboxyl equivalent as the succinimidyl ester and a benzylic carbamate-linked nitrogen environment. As an amino acid activated ester, it is used as a coupling reagent precursor in peptide synthesis and peptide fragment assembly, where the OSu leaving group supports formation of amide bonds under controlled conditions while the Z-protecting groups help suppress undesired side reactions of the guanidinium and amino functionalities.
