N-ω-Nitro-D-arginine

N-ω-Nitro-D-arginine is a D-configured arginine derivative in which the ω-amino group is substituted with a nitro functionality, yielding a modified guanidinium-containing amino acid class compound. The molecule retains the α-amino and α-carboxyl groups while bearing a substituted side chain whose guanidinium motif is associated with strong hydrogen-bonding and ionic character, and the ω-nitro substitution introduces an electron-withdrawing nitro group that can alter side-chain basicity and polarity relative to unmodified arginine. As a chemically defined arginine analogue, it is used in peptide and amino acid derivative synthesis and in chemical biology and analytical studies that require a nitro-functionalized arginine side chain for structure-activity comparisons, labeling or conjugation handle design, and enzyme-substrate or binding-assay experiments where arginine-like charge distribution is probed.
