Z-L-tyrosine methyl ester is a protected, esterified amino acid derivative in which L-tyrosine is converted to the corresponding methyl ester at the carboxyl group and the amino functionality is masked as a Z (benzyloxycarbonyl, Cbz) carbamate. The molecule therefore contains a carbamate-protected α-amino group, a methyl ester carbonyl, and a phenolic side chain on the aromatic ring, with the Z group providing chemoselective control of amine reactivity during peptide-related transformations.
