N-ω-tosyl-D-arginine is a D-configured arginine derivative in which the ω-amino group of the arginine side chain is substituted with a tosyl (p-toluenesulfonyl) protecting group, while the α-amino and α-carboxyl groups remain present as the free functional termini of the amino acid framework. The molecule therefore bears an α-carboxylic acid and an α-amino group for further coupling chemistry, and its guanidinium-bearing side chain is structurally modified by N-ω tosylation that alters hydrogen-bonding and reduces side-chain nucleophilicity relative to unprotected arginine.
