N-α-Z-N-δ-Boc-L-ornithine N-carboxyanhydride

N-α-Z-N-δ-Boc-L-ornithine N-carboxyanhydride is an amino acid N-carboxyanhydride (NCA) derived from L-ornithine bearing Nα and Nδ orthogonal protecting groups, where the α-amino nitrogen is protected as a benzyloxycarbonyl (Z/Cbz-type) carbamate and the δ-amino side chain is protected as a tert-butoxycarbonyl (Boc) carbamate. The molecule contains the characteristic NCA reactive carbonyl and ring system for acylation/chain-growth chemistry, while retaining a protected, non-nucleophilic side-chain amine and a protected α-amino functionality that is masked as carbamates rather than a free amine. As an NCA intermediate, it is used in peptide chemistry to generate protected peptide segments under conditions that open the NCA ring and form amide bonds, while preserving the orthogonal Z and Boc groups for subsequent selective deprotection and further coupling steps.
