Z-D-Leu-ONp

Z-D-Leu-ONp is a protected amino acid derivative consisting of D-leucine bearing a benzyloxycarbonyl (Z, Cbz) protecting group on the amino functionality and converted to a p-nitrophenyl ester (ONp) at the carboxyl group. The molecule contains a secondary amide-forming carbamate (Z) and an ester linkage to p-nitrophenol, with the D stereochemical configuration indicated in the product name and a hydrophobic isobutyl side chain characteristic of leucine. Z-D-Leu-ONp is used as an activated amino acid building block for peptide coupling and for preparing peptide-related intermediates, while the p-nitrophenyl ester moiety provides a chemically addressable carboxyl activation handle for stepwise synthesis and analytical derivatization workflows.
