Z-D-Phe-ONp

Z-D-Phe-ONp is a protected D-phenylalanine derivative in which the amino group is masked by a benzyloxycarbonyl (Z, Cbz) protecting group and the carboxyl group is converted to an ONp ester (p-nitrophenyl ester). The molecule contains a stereochemically defined D-α-amino acid backbone bearing a benzyl side chain, with the Z carbamate and the p-nitrophenyl ester providing chemoselective handling of the amine and carboxyl functionalities. Z-D-Phe-ONp is used as an amino acid ester building block for peptide coupling and for preparing more complex phenylalanine-containing derivatives, and the p-nitrophenyl ester form provides a leaving group suitable for acyl transfer under standard peptide synthesis conditions.
