Z-Dab(Z)-OH

Z-Dab(Z)-OH is a protected amino acid derivative of 2,3-diaminobutanoic acid (Dab) bearing an N-benzyloxycarbonyl (Cbz, denoted "Z") protecting group on the amino functionality and an additional "Z" protecting group on the second amino group, with a free carboxylic acid (-COOH) at the α-position. The molecule therefore contains two amine-derived functionalities that are masked as carbamate/benzyloxycarbonyl groups, while retaining the carboxyl group for coupling chemistry; stereochemistry is not specified in the product name. Z-Dab(Z)-OH is used as a building block in peptide and peptidomimetic synthesis where controlled chemoselectivity toward one functional group at a time is required for stepwise assembly and for preparing Dab-containing analogues for structure-activity studies, chemical biology labeling, or analytical reference standards.
