Z-Glu(OSu)-OBzl is a protected glutamic acid derivative in which the α-amino group is masked as a benzyloxycarbonyl (Z) carbamate while the side-chain γ-carboxyl functionality is converted to a succinimidyl ester (OSu), and the α-carboxyl group is present as a benzyl ester (OBzl). The molecule therefore contains a carbamate-protected amino moiety and two ester/activated carboxyl forms, with the glutamate side chain retaining the characteristic additional carboxyl carbonyl that is rendered acylating-capable through the OSu leaving group, while the OBzl group controls carboxyl reactivity and supports chemoselective handling. Z-Glu(OSu)-OBzl is used as an activated amino acid building block for preparing glutamate-containing peptide or conjugation intermediates, enabling coupling reactions at the activated side-chain carboxyl under conditions that preserve the Z and benzyl ester protecting groups.
