Z-L-Tyr-ONp is a protected amino acid derivative in which L-tyrosine is converted to an ONp ester (p-nitrophenyl ester) at the carboxyl terminus and the amino group is protected with a benzyloxycarbonyl (Z, Cbz) group. The molecule therefore contains a Z-carbamate-protected α-amino functionality and a p-nitrophenyl ester carboxyl equivalent, while the tyrosine side chain bears a phenolic hydroxyl that can participate in hydrogen bonding and selective derivatization under appropriate conditions. Z-L-Tyr-ONp is used as an activated tyrosine building block for peptide and amide bond formation in synthetic workflows and as a reagent for preparing tyrosine-containing intermediates or labeled/conjugated derivatives where controlled acyl transfer from the ONp ester is required.
