Z-L-tyrosine hydrazide is a protected amino acid derivative in which L-tyrosine is converted to the corresponding hydrazide, with a benzyloxycarbonyl (Z, Cbz) protecting group present on the amino functionality. The molecule retains the phenolic side chain of tyrosine, while the carboxyl group is transformed into a hydrazide (-C(=O)NHNH2), providing an additional nucleophilic/condensation-capable terminal hydrazine moiety alongside the Z-protected nitrogen. Z-L-tyrosine hydrazide is used in peptide-related and bioconjugation-oriented synthesis as a handle for hydrazide chemistry and as a protected tyrosine-containing building block for preparing further amino acid and peptide derivatives under conditions that preserve the Z carbamate.
