BETA-ALANINE (1,2-13C2; 15N) is an isotopically labeled β-amino acid in which the carbon atoms at positions 1 and 2 are enriched with 13C and the amino nitrogen is labeled with 15N, retaining the β-alanine backbone with an amino group and a terminal carboxylic acid. The molecule contains a primary amine and a carboxyl functional group that can exist in zwitterionic form depending on pH, and its isotopic substitution enables mass- and NMR-based tracking without changing the fundamental side-chain chemistry relative to unlabeled β-alanine. It is used as a stable-isotope tracer and analytical standard for isotopic labeling experiments, metabolic or turnover studies at the level of chemical incorporation, and quantitative LC-MS or NMR method development where differentiation from unlabeled β-alanine is required.
