L-ARGININE-N-FMOC, PMC (15N4) is an N-Fmoc-protected derivative of L-arginine in which the α-amino group is masked by a 9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl (Fmoc) protecting group and the molecule bears four 15N isotopic labels on the arginine nitrogens (15N4), corresponding to a guanidinium side chain. The arginine framework contains a free carboxyl group and a guanidinium functionality that is strongly basic and capable of hydrogen-bonding and ionic interactions, while the Fmoc carbamate controls chemoselectivity by preventing unprotected amino reactivity during stepwise assembly. In peptide chemistry and chemical biology workflows, this isotopically labeled, protected amino acid is used as a building block for solid-phase or solution-phase synthesis of arginine-containing peptides and for NMR- or mass-spectrometry-based analytical studies that benefit from 15N labeling.
