N-ε-Z-D-lysine

N-ε-Z-D-lysine is a protected lysine derivative in which the ε-amino group is carbamated with a benzyloxycarbonyl (Z, Cbz) protecting group, while the α-amino and α-carboxyl functionalities remain present as the free functional groups of the amino acid. The molecule is specified as the D stereochemical form of lysine, bearing a side-chain (-(CH2)4-) terminating in the Z-protected ε-nitrogen and thus presenting a controlled, masked primary amine for chemoselective transformations. In peptide and amino-acid derivative synthesis, N-ε-Z-D-lysine functions as a protected building block that supports stepwise assembly by limiting reactivity at the ε-position while the α-amino and carboxyl groups can be used for further coupling and elaboration.
