Z-D-Lys(Z)-OH

Z-D-Lys(Z)-OH contains the amino acid skeleton of lysine bearing two carboxylate and side-chain protected functionalities, with the α-amino group and the ε-amino group both masked as Z (benzyloxycarbonyl/Cbz) carbamates and the carboxyl group present as a free carboxylic acid. The molecule is a D-configured lysine derivative (as indicated by "D") featuring a long aliphatic side chain terminating in the protected ε-amino group, while the Z groups provide carbamate linkages that reduce nucleophilicity and suppress undesired acylation or side reactions during handling and coupling. Z-D-Lys(Z)-OH is used as a protected amino acid building block for stepwise peptide synthesis and for preparing lysine-containing peptide intermediates where orthogonal or controlled deprotection of the amino functionalities is required for sequence assembly or downstream conjugation.
