Z-DL-Asn-OH

Z-DL-Asn-OH is a protected amino acid derivative of asparagine, featuring the side-chain amide characteristic of Asn and a carboxylic acid functional group for incorporation as a building block in peptide-related synthesis. The amino group is protected with a benzyloxycarbonyl (Z, Cbz) group, and the "DL" designation indicates a racemic mixture at the alpha carbon, while the molecule retains the free side-chain amide and the amino and carboxyl functionality masked/unmasked by the protecting group pattern. Z-DL-Asn-OH is used as a precursor for assembling asparagine-containing peptides and peptide analogues in stepwise synthetic workflows, where the Z protecting group supports chemoselective handling of the amino functionality during coupling and subsequent deprotection.
