Z-L-Glu(Me)-OH

Z-L-Glu(Me)-OH contains the amino acid scaffold of L-glutamic acid bearing a methyl substituent on the side-chain, forming a modified glutamate derivative with an α-amino group and a carboxylic acid functional group. The molecule is N-protected with a benzyloxycarbonyl (Z, Cbz) group, which masks the amino functionality and leaves the side-chain and α-carboxyl chemistry available for controlled reactivity, while the side-chain methyl substitution alters polarity and steric character relative to unmodified glutamate. Z-L-Glu(Me)-OH is used as a protected amino acid building block in peptide synthesis and as a defined glutamate analogue for structure-activity studies, chemical biology labeling strategies, and the preparation of more complex amino acid and peptide derivatives where a glutamate-like side chain with a methyl-modified environment is required.
