Z-Lys(Boc)-OSu contains the protected lysine side chain in a Z-protected α-amino acid framework, bearing a Boc group on the ε-amino functionality and an N-carboxybenzyloxy (benzyloxycarbonyl, Z) protecting group on the α-amino group, with the carboxyl converted to an N-hydroxysuccinimide (OSu) ester. The molecule therefore presents an OSu-activated carboxyl group for acyl transfer chemistry while retaining protected amines that suppress undesired nucleophilic side reactions during coupling, and its ε-amino substituent is masked as a tert-butyl carbamate (Boc). Z-Lys(Boc)-OSu is used as an amino-acid-derived activated ester intermediate to form amide bonds in peptide-related synthesis and in bioconjugation workflows where controlled acylation of nucleophiles is required under conditions compatible with carbamate and Z protecting groups.
