Z-D-Valine

Z-D-Valine is a protected amino acid derivative of D-valine, featuring a valine side chain with an isopropyl group and an N-terminal benzyloxycarbonyl (Z, Cbz) protecting group. The molecule contains both an amino functionality and a carboxyl group, with the amino group masked as a carbamate to control chemoselectivity during peptide coupling and to suppress undesired side reactions. Z-D-Valine is used as a building block in amino acid and peptide synthesis, including stepwise assembly where the protected stereochemical form and protected amine enable controlled incorporation of the valine residue into peptide-related intermediates.
