Z-L-Tyr(tBu)-OSu is a protected amino acid derivative in which L-tyrosine bears a tert-butyl-protected phenolic side chain and the α-amino group is masked as a benzyloxycarbonyl (Z) carbamate, while the carboxyl terminus is converted to an N-hydroxysuccinimide (OSu) ester. The molecule therefore contains a phenolic oxygen protected as a tert-butyl ether, a carbamate-protected amino group, and an activated OSu ester that can undergo acyl transfer to form amide bonds under appropriate conditions. Z-L-Tyr(tBu)-OSu is used as an amino-acid-based coupling reagent and peptide-synthesis intermediate for introducing a tyrosine residue bearing the tBu side-chain protection, and it can also serve as a defined tyrosine handle for chemical conjugation and labeling workflows that require controlled acylation.
